Founded in 1832, South Lyon was originally called Thompson's Corner. Known for its historic charm, family-friendly festivals, & top-notch parks. It also boasts amazing schools and unparalleled quality of life. Just minutes away from Brighton, Howell, Milford and Northville. The Salem-South Lyon District Library - is newly expanded with over 15,000 sq. ft. The Parks & Trails Includes over 200 acres of parkland including McHattie Park, Volunteer Park, Paul Baker Memorial Park (Fountain Park), Andover Park, Columbia Park and the Huron Valley Rail Trail. McHattie Park is at the heart of the City of South Lyon just off Lafayette Street, it's nearly 15 acres and has something for everyone, including playground equipment, little league ball diamonds, sand volleyball courts, sledding hill, outdoor ice skating and hockey rink, along with plenty of open spaces for picnics and outdoor fun. The Historic South Lyon Hotel, which was a monumental landmark of South Lyon suffered a tragic fire on Wednesday, June 22nd, thank goodness the three remaining staff members exited the building safely.
