History: Named after a railroad official by the name of John D. Milliken. Milliken is located between Denver and Fort Collins just East of I-25 about 6 miles. In the 1860's the community began as a trading post due to the location of the Denver/Laramie/Northwestern Railroad. Unfortunately, much of the town was destroyed by fires in the 1910's and then in 1917 the railroad was abandoned. The Town of Milliken continued on primarily as a farming community through the depression and World War I and II. In the 1950's two large potato decks were constructed, thus creating a housing boom in the late 1960's and early 1970's. In 1985 and 1986 the roads were paved. The town has continued to grow, and in 1996 the town government moved their facilities to the Milliken Community Complex. Here you will also find the Milliken Public Works Facility built in 2004, a new police station built in 2009 and most recently a fire station. Mad Russian Golf Community: The Mad Russian is a wonderful housing and golf community located in Milliken, CO with spectacular views of the vast mountain range. There are three subdivisions named The Villas at the Mad Russian, Blehm Waterway Estates and Mad Russian Estates. Many of the homes are located on the Mad Russian Golf Club, a challenging 18 hole public course. There is no HOA fee within the subdivisions, but there are covenants within each of the subdivisions. All of the homes are single family with the majority of homes having been built from 1998 to 2005. The average home price within all three subdivisions, in 2017 was $417,000 and high price was $650,000. Yes, a bit crazy with the name, but history set the course for naming this unique golf course and neighborhood. You see, prior to the 1980's this land was owned by an ornery Russian farmer named Ted Blehm. Due to Ted's orneriness he wasn't allowed in many of the other local golf courses, so Ted decided to build his own course, named Jack Rabbit Trail. Unfortunately in the 1980's the economics of the area had difficult times and Ted lost the golf course of his dreams. After a few years, in 1986 Bob Ehrlich purchased and renamed the golf course to the Mad Russian Golf Club. HEnce the names of the three subdivisions followed. Today, the course is not only fun and challenging to play but the grounds are beautiful with gorgeous Colorado mountain views!
