Farm Lands Traversed by the Donner Party 11/09/2016
Chicago Park is a very desirable place for people to live in Nevada County, especially for those who want to live on large parcels and keep horses or live the farming life. Located along Highway 174 between Colfax and Grass Valley, Chicago Park features its own K-8 school and is the closest community to Rollins Lake. The historic Pioneer Trail, used by emigrants including the famous Donner Party, winds through much of this area. Recreational opportunities abound. You'll find lakes, the Bear River, hiking and biking trails within minutes, and world-class skiing at Truckee and Donner not far at all. Chicago Park has its own Post Office, volunteer fire district, and a few stores, but most shopping would be done in either Colfax or Grass Valley. The elevation provides a fair amount of snow in the winter (but not that much) and a beautiful mix of conifers. The Ponderosa Pines tower high into the clear blue skies. It won't take long to see why many people prefer to live in Chicago Park! Beautiful Fall Colors 11/21/2018
Chicago Park has always been one of my favorite places to drive through. The relaxed country setting makes you feel at home and the fall colors are still hanging around! The oak trees are turning yellow to give it that warm winter feeling. Take a drive and check it out! Chicago Park, CA 07/31/2017
Chicago Park is a historical agricultural community. There are many well established farms, known for their pears, apples and peaches since the 1900's. Chicago Park of Nevada County is located along Hwy 174 a few miles in from Colfax, before you reach Downtown Grass Valley. Take this beautiful drive from Colfax to Grass Valley to enjoy a mixture of orchards, wide open spaces, homes on acreage and upscale subdivisions.
