Spring is just around the corner and if you've been thinking about revamping some of your outdoor spaces, we've got some info straight from the experts at the National Association of Landscape Professionals.

    What the experts are saying:

According to their blog, COVID-19 has driven demand for lawn care and landscape services, as well as affected the supply chain for meeting customer needs. This includes products such as drainage pipes and hardscaping pavers.

This might be a reason to go ahead and make your plans early, or speak to a landscape or hardscape professional well before spring arrives, to ensure that you won't be delayed on projects you might be envisioning.

Prices may also be affected, due to these demand issues, so keep that in mind as you are budgeting for future projects around the grounds of your home.

When it comes to selecting plants based on material and colors, many experts are advising consumers to look for tried and true options that are readily available.

If you are thinking about more specialty items, make sure to speak to your landscape professionals about it to find out if they can deliver what you are wanting.

One professional quoted by the NALP said his prediction was that hydrangeas and spireas will be big sellers in 2022. He expects blues, purples, yellows and whites to be the popular colors next year, and not a lot of reds and oranges.

    What's currently popular & trending:

According to the NALP blog, there has been a steady stream of customers wanting to extend outdoor seasons with holiday decor, landscape lighting and outdoor fire pits.

There's also a trend toward low-maintenance plants that provide color through colder weather.

Other projects that have risen in popularity have been elaborate pools and installations on the larger scale. One landscape professional surveyed said that fire pits have been installed on almost every job their company has completed.

Outdoor kitchens, pavilions, pergolas, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits are all features that are expected to remain popular. A professional from the NALP says it’s all about the outdoor living spaces and they work to create a seamless transition from the inside to the outside.
