While growing up in Chicago, IL, I learned a lot about real estate from my father, who worked for the Chicago Housing Authority and owned his own business as a licensed plumber, in addition to investing in & maintaining rental apartments. Occasionally, I would assist him on jobs and ascertained the structural aspects of houses and apartment buildings. Chicago has been steeped in historical architecture with the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Louis Sullivan. I appreciated admiring different types of neighborhoods influenced by such greats.
When I made my way to Los Angeles, my first experience at homeownership was buying a townhome at the Village Green. What an honor it was to be on the Board of Directors while working to get it designated as a National Historical Landmark.
